EARS ARE DEALIND WITH FLOOD ANIMAL IN IOWA

The floodwaters in Cedar Rapids, Iowa may be receding, but United Animal Nations' Emergency Animal Rescue Service (EARS) volunteers are dealing with a flood of animals who, stranded for days, need immediate care and attention.

Each day, more than 100 animals are being rescued and brought to an emergency shelter. There, the frightened, lonely and traumatized dogs, cats and other creatures are taken into the loving arms of our EARS volunteers.

Please make a donation to our Disaster Relief Fund to support these efforts.

We have more than 20 volunteers on the ground now, and continue to deploy more to manage this overwhelming task. With nearly 600 animals in the shelter, and more arriving daily, our volunteers are working day and night to give these beloved pets the tender loving care they need until they can be reunited with their families.

Our work won't end when the shelter closes, either. We're hearing that hundreds, if not thousands of families will have no homes to return to. We fear that many people will feel forced to surrender their pets because they have nowhere to live with them. Thankfully, UAN's LifeLine Crisis Relief Grants can help flood victims pay for temporary boarding until they can find new, pet-friendly residences.

Please help us provide financial assistance to displaced families by donating to our Disaster Relief Fundtoday!

We are hopeful that, with your support, we can meet the needs of the animals and families devastated by the historic flooding in Cedar Rapids.

Warmly,

Shannon Asquith
Director of Field Services

PEACEFUL DEMONSTRATION -NY

See how birds suffer in captivity!  A bird is not a "pet"

WHAT: Peaceful Demonstration against Bird Paradise
WHEN: Saturday, June 21, 2008 from 2:30 pm - 4:30 pm
WHERE: Public right of way in front of Bird Paradise, 551 E Rt. 130 S, Burlington, NJ 08016

Every year thousands of birds are bred and sold by one of the largest bird stores in the nation: Bird Paradise. Pet store birds are deprived of their natural environment and often imprisoned in cages. Even the most well intentioned person cannot provide for the needs of any bird. Bird Paradise brags about having thousands of birds for sale. On their own Web site, they claim they are the "World's Largest Bird Store". Let's tell them that profiting from the exploitation of birds is not something to be proud of.

To see video of actual bird mills, visit   http://www.projectperry.com/birdmills.html

Signs and leaflets are provided. Parking is available on the side streets next to Bird Paradise. Please do not drive/walk through Bird Paradise's parking lot or grass lot.

Contact:
justroar@comcast.net or visit ww w.BoycottBirdParadise.com   for more information.

If you cannot attend the demonstration but would still like to help birds, please take a minute to send an email to the local papers. Ask them to cover the demo.

And feel free to add your thoughts about keeping birds in captivity, profiting from breeding, etc...

Subject: Pigeon Trapper

Hello:

Here's a license plate no. of a station wagon, with one male driver, that I've seen trapping pigeons with a very large net.The net folds over and the whole thing is dumped in the back of the wagon, pigeons and all.  Driver takes off without saying anything to pedestrians questioning his motives or reasons for trapping.

License no. is CXL 6393.Saw him a few months ago at the St. Vincents Clinic on 12th st. and 7th ave, also at the Union Square Park in the a.m.There are no signs on the wagon to indicate an "official" vehicle of any kind.

Here's hoping that idiot councilman from Bklyn doesn't get his anti-pigeon bill up before the full council.

What is anyone doing about this?

IF YOU SEE SOMETHING SAY SOMETHING
After a dry spell of several weeks where there was not any pigeon netting -- pigeon shoots in PA were cancelled because of the lack of pigeons, Dwayne Daley, a notorious netter, was seen on 101 Street and Manhattan Avenue at 6:45 a.m. this morning netting pigeons again, as reported to us by someone. He/she apparently makes several trips to that area in a day, and the person will be going back to check.

It is unbelievable that laws are being broken, and that nothing is done about it.  Please continue to call 311, the police, the ASPCA and the DEC at 800-847-7332.  Individuals with information may call the toll-free live pigeon shoot tip line at 1-800-637-4124.

Keep calling and put pressure on our elected government representatives because the worst thing you can do is to do nothing!!!!!!!

Why there isn't an attorney somewhere who will sue the City is beyond me because they are breaking the law according to the Department of Health.  You are not permitted to remove pigeons or wildlife from their habitat without a permit.

REPORT ILLEGAL ACTIVITY
Please call the DEC to report illegal activity and poaching of any wildlife including pigeons.

Please have as much information as possible to give to the law enforcement officer -- times, dates (especially if the netting/poaching occurs at regular intervals), location, description of vehicle with license plate number, if possible.

Department of Environmental Conservation:
800-847-7332

This number should also be used to report petstore abuse.
